Tanglewood Inspired

The Green Music Center at Sonoma State University features the 1,400-seat Weill Concert Hall, modeled after Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, with an operable rear wall that opens to terraced lawn seating for 4,000. Within the hall, expansive windows fill the room with natural light and operable banners adjust the acoustics for each performance. The Green Center offers an amazing array of events from pop to classical to jazz to opera to country. It is home to the Santa Rosa Symphony and functions as a giant classroom for music students, faculty, and the community. The hospitality center adjacent to Weill Hall has event rooms that double as ensemble warm-up rooms.

Adjustable Acoustics

The Academic Building provides rehearsal and practice spaces, classrooms and faculty offices for the Music Department, along with a 240-seat recital hall that is their primary performance venue. Its soaring volume supports a 19-stop Brombaugh tracker organ, while adjustable curtains reduce its reverberation for jazz combos and Latin bands. Schroeder Hall was named for the piano-playing character in the Peanuts comic strip, by the cartoonist’s widow.
