Enhanced Orchestra Pit

The renovated 550-seat Fairchild Theatre has an enhanced orchestra pit to support opera and musical theatre. With a stage level lift, a generous platform supports a wide range of ensembles. A series of orchestra shell towers infills the expanded proscenium opening to create a stage surround for non-amplified music performances.

Adjustable Acoustics

Adjustable absorptive banners can change the reverberation time and reflection structure to suit the needs of performances from choir to jazz. Every surface has been carefully considered and shaped for excellent acoustics. The old concave shaped plaster ceiling was removed to eliminate uneven reflections and increase the reverberation time and exposed the original steel roof trusses. The walls are composed of custom sound diffusive wood paneling.
