A New Home for Music

Phillips Andover is a prominent college preparatory school with a large and diverse student body, many of whom participate in the school’s musical offerings. The Falls Music Center offers a new home to the music department and a place where Andover’s students can perform, rehearse, practice, and record in spaces that sound as beautiful as they look.

Adjustable Acoustics

The Falls Music Center was carefully programmed to complement other spaces on campus, including a chapel that has served historically as the performance venue for the largest ensembles and largest audiences. Thus the largest performance space in the new building is an orchestra rehearsal room deliberately designed to double as a recital space. Adjustable acoustic banners and a partially retractable seating bank provide further flexibility. Two other rehearsal spaces complement the largest one – a medium sized space designed for the jazz band and other louder ensembles, and a smaller space designed for choral music and chamber music. Classrooms, practice rooms and technology-heavy spaces serve the other music needs. A recording suite includes a well-isolated live room with extensive glazing that puts the most special aspects of the building front and center.
