Urban Hub Revitalized

The Appleton Public Library underwent a comprehensive renovation and expansion to transform its downtown facility into a vibrant, inclusive hub for learning, connection, and community engagement. The redesign included new community meeting and program rooms, teen and children’s spaces, study rooms, a learning stair, and flexible areas for collaboration and quiet study.

Acoustic Balance

Kirkegaard provided acoustic consulting for the entire project, focusing on creating distinct acoustic environments suited to the wide range of uses throughout the library. Services included room acoustics, sound isolation, and noise and vibration control. Special attention was given to speech intelligibility in gathering spaces, privacy in conference and study rooms, and managing mechanical noise in open-plan
collections and reading areas. The result is a welcoming environment where communication, reflection, and activity coexist in acoustic balance.
